I did it!

Thank you everyone who sponsored me!
I actually did it, a full 24hour silence. I raised £175 in sponsor money for my sponsored silence so thank you everyone for your support.

When i got to the Witton Chimes, armed with notepad and pen, i was greeted by a lot of laughter and many people tried to make me talk. From 2-3pm i was monitored by the barmaid who is a friend of mine, then my friend Ste started at 3pm.

Thank you so much Ste. He gave me lots of encouragement when i was finding it hard, bored, or proving myself to anyone who took it upon themselves to try and make me talk. He also bought me diet cokes to get me through the day!

I had a man try and tickle me to get me to talk, try to get my phone number and then try to kiss me. that was a challenging bit.

There were a few songs picked on the jukebox throughout the day, "when you say nothing at all", no doubts "don't speak, "silence is golden" and a few other suitable choices.

a few of my friends popped in throughout the day. They kept asking me questions, hung signs on me, insulted me and even amended my sign from "please sponsor me" to simply "kiss me"
who needs enemies eh?

Saying that though i must say thank you to my friend Nick, who took it upon himself to promote my cause to every person that walked through the door (although mostly that was just embarrassing) it did boost my sponsorship.

Daft as it sounds, by 9pm i was exhausted, even though i hadn't said a word (personally i think its because i talk so much usually, it was a real mental challenge) so I left the Witton Chimes and headed home for a chippy tea and an early night.

Thank you everyone for being so generous

Sponsored Silence Day!

today's the day!! its 2pm Monday 20th

I woke up this morning to my phone ringing and in my disorientated state, i almost answered it! But i was prepared, last night i stuck a note on my phone reminding myself i was on a sponsored silence all day!

my next challenge was to get on a bus and ask for a return ticket. I had my notepad, i had a pen and i also got very weird looks off the bus driver and passengers!

now it has been pretty easy so far but now i am off to spend the rest of the day being monitored by my friend who works at the Witton chimes in Northwich.

Feel free to come and say hello (unfortunately you will only get a written reply) or come along just to check I'm actually doing my silence!

I will be at the Witton Chimes from 2:30pm until 8 or 9pm depending on how tired i am!
I will take photos and update you again tomorrow

English abroad!

In June 2010 I am off to Asia for 12 weeks teaching English as a foreign language in schools and orphanages across the country.

I am doing this before I start my post graduate certificate of education at University in September 2010, as the experience will be extremely beneficial to my course and myself as a teacher, as I will learn some really valuable and transferable skills.

The schools and orphanages are seriously under funded and do not have the resources, or sufficient teachers for the huge amount of children that attend each school, most of which have well over 1000 students and only about 10 teachers.

Many families have been affected by illness and disease, leaving a huge number of orphans without any support and often on the streets at an early age. I will help care for these children: provide vital support in their early childhood and help reintegrate them back into school and society while creating a safe, stable environment.

Volunteers are needed to support these children in many ways, from improving their education to boosting their self esteem, giving them the chance to enjoy a better quality of life.

The projects involve working with small care centres and schools that assist orphans and vulnerable children by providing them with basic food, care and education.

The project costs £5000, including flights and accommodation, and I am doing numerous fundraising activities to raise this money and asking for instead of any birthday or Christmas presents please can you make a donation.

If you could sponsor me or make a donation I would be extremely grateful, you can track my progress on my blog. I will keep a chart and map of my travels, schools I teach at and any photos.
My blog will list all my fundraising dates/activities and money raised and will be updated regularly.

Thank you and wish me luck!
