English abroad!

In June 2010 I am off to Asia for 12 weeks teaching English as a foreign language in schools and orphanages across the country.

I am doing this before I start my post graduate certificate of education at University in September 2010, as the experience will be extremely beneficial to my course and myself as a teacher, as I will learn some really valuable and transferable skills.

The schools and orphanages are seriously under funded and do not have the resources, or sufficient teachers for the huge amount of children that attend each school, most of which have well over 1000 students and only about 10 teachers.

Many families have been affected by illness and disease, leaving a huge number of orphans without any support and often on the streets at an early age. I will help care for these children: provide vital support in their early childhood and help reintegrate them back into school and society while creating a safe, stable environment.

Volunteers are needed to support these children in many ways, from improving their education to boosting their self esteem, giving them the chance to enjoy a better quality of life.

The projects involve working with small care centres and schools that assist orphans and vulnerable children by providing them with basic food, care and education.

The project costs £5000, including flights and accommodation, and I am doing numerous fundraising activities to raise this money and asking for instead of any birthday or Christmas presents please can you make a donation.

If you could sponsor me or make a donation I would be extremely grateful, you can track my progress on my blog. I will keep a chart and map of my travels, schools I teach at and any photos.
My blog will list all my fundraising dates/activities and money raised and will be updated regularly.

Thank you and wish me luck!
