Saturday 26th November

I woke up really early this morning at 6am and couldn’t get back to sleep. By 8am I decided to get up and go to the supermarket to get phone credit and some other essentials, if you run out of phone credit it is as if you have been cut off, you don’t receive any messages or phonecalls until you have credit again which can be frustrating.I got ready to go out for the Thanksgiving staff meal and met two of the teachers to get a taxi together at 1.30pm to be at the Green cap in plenty of time for the meal at 2pm. There were 8 of us ready at 2pm (there were supposed to be 27 in total) by 2.30pm 8 more had arrived but we were still missing 11 people. By 3pm 5 more teachers arrived and we decided to eat without the others as they were now an hour late and we were so hungry. The starter was pumpkin soup which was a very welcome change from the watery “soup” the Chinese have, this was a thick creamy soup with proper bread, it was delicious. The next course was a turkey lunch, there was roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potato, carrots, green beans, corn on the cob, stuffing and turkey and it was yummy. I had been looking forward to roast potatoes all week as nowhere does them! To finish off the meal we had a pecan pie with ice cream which was also nice, by this point 4 other people had arrived for the meal. We stayed until about 6pm chatting and there was also an engagement announcement so there were lot’s of toasts and generally a really nice day.
